Artspace’s new exhibition, HER FORMATION, features the bold yet playful work of nine women artists based in the Pacific Northwest
Lake Oswego, Oregon—The latest exhibition at Artspace, HER FORMATION, exhibits the work of nine women artists whose enigmatic artworks offer visions of survival and even imaginative possibility in times of upheaval. The artists include Marjan Anvari, Kirsten Bauer, Francesca Capone, Sally Jablonsky, Emily Katz, Frankie Krupa-Vahdani, Zhang Mao, Heather Watkins and Amanda Wojick. Artspace is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 5pm, and outside of these hours during special events.
Each artist makes sense of the complexity of the world through artistic acts of alteration, abstraction, and material transformation. Their bold, often brightly saturated compositions respond to limitations through a wide variety of approaches, whether limitations of their embodied experience, cultural traditions, or autocratic systems of power. The artists’ works are uncompromising in their creative power, defiant, and even playful.
Artspace Curator Morgan Ritter shares, “Though the artists’ work may covertly respond to politically charged subjects such as war or the oppression of women’s rights, or much less extreme instability from the experiences of motherhood, disability, or personal transformation– each of the works in this exhibition are imbued with a feeling of possibility and wonder.” Ritter continues, “Rather than offering tidy conclusions, the show unfolds like an ever-evolving puzzle, inviting viewers to engage, interpret, and find meaning. In this complexity, there is hope—a spirit of play and participation that energizes the work and its larger world.”

We invite you to celebrate the opening reception with us on Friday, February 21st from 5-7pm at Artspace. Many exhibiting artists will be present and light refreshments will be served.
This exhibition will be on view at Artspace from February 21 through April 11th, 2025. Artspace is a nonprofit art gallery in Lake Oswego.
