Marin Kenny: on building a home in a body

SUPER SECRET PROJECTS is proud to present
on building a home in a body, a solo show by Marin Kenny. This exhibition explores themes of transformation and self-determination through watercolor paintings and found object sculptures.
Kenny’s life size watercolor self portraits are frank depictions of quiet moments between and beyond gender affirming medical transition milestones. Cropped images of the body in intimate settings focus on details like body hair, tattoos, scars, adornment; the ways lived experiences are expressed on the body. These sensitive moments are complimented by found object sculptures presented through a lens of camp, inviting viewers to engage with curiosity. Soft sculptures reference abstracted bodies, chrysalises and cocoons; forms shifting out of and into being. Every shot i’ve ever taken (reliquaries, 2022 – present), is an ongoing conceptual project transforming hormone shot supplies into sparkling markers of time.
These three modes of working are united by a playful sense of color and a dedication to sharing frequently unseen, normal moments of trans life. Living in a changing body is a universal experience. But when this experience is considered in terms of gender expansive bodies, the conversation is frequently distorted and excludes voices of those with actual lived experience. In sharing this work, Kenny seeks to add a corrective.
