about exhibition

In diverse ways the artists for this exhibition question a seemingly disciplinarian system, with its own set of rules and distribution, often nodding in disagreement. The choice is always left to the freedom of the subject in question.

Ride off like a cowboy into your sunset

An exhibition presenting works by John Miller, Gareth James, Sam Pulitzer, Federico Schott, Kaspar Müller, Marc Kokopeli, and Gene Beery.
The Art Deco building in Juárez neighborhood which has been the place where Aguirre has hosted exhibitions since 2018 used to be a Notary’s office. The next group show takes this type of recording as a point of departure: the relation between artistic production and commodity culture. A notary’s office is a place to make arrangements, of any sort, to legitimize, assign private property, and make liaisons. But what is the art world but its own set of rules and speculation?

Materials make the problems of art the problems of the world at large.
Rephrasing artist Gareth James, the artists in the exhibition propose different reflections on autonomy, artistic labour and representation from a perspective of criticality. The precariousness of the artist life in comparison to other more profitable ventures seems at times absurd and diminishing for artistic realities. It is inevitable to say that this becomes a returning thought “Hey pal are you coming back for a little more exploitation?”
Gareth James (London, 1970), John Miller (Cleveland, Ohio, 1954), Federico Schott (Torreón, Mexico, 1976), Kaspar Müller (Shaffhausen, Switzerland, 1983), Sam Pulitzer (Fairmont, New Hampshire, 1984), Marc Kokopeli (Seattle, Washing- ton, US, 1987), Gene Beery (Racine, Wisconsin, 1937).
