OFFSCREEN Paris
about OFFSCREEN Paris
OFFSCREEN Paris returns this year to the Chapelle Saint-Louis de la Salpêtrière, celebrating its fifth edition from October 20 to 25, 2026 (with a preview on October 19).
OFFSCREEN Paris values contemporary, historic and avant-garde artists with image-based practices. With its distinct voice, it is a must-see highlight of Paris Art Week each October, bringing together a tightly curated selection of artists working with installations, still and moving images.
This year OFFSCREEN highlights Ana Mendieta (1948-1985), the renowned Cuban-American artist whose ephemeral Silueta earth/body works have been seared into our collective imaginary through her image-making practice. Six films that offer a glimpse into the diversity of her practice are presented in a life-size installation beneath the soaring dome of the Chapelle Saint-Louis de la Salpetriere.
Nearly 30 galleries present solo presentations by artists, with highlights of the year including Ibrahim Mahama (APALAZZOGALLERY), in dialogue with his concurrent exhibition at the Fondation Cartier; Steina Vasulka (BERG Contemporary); a set of 49 hand-painted photographs Ukrainian artist Boris Mikhailov (Suzanne Tarasieve) created around his first visit to France in 1989; a site-specific rendition of Andrea Geyer’s (Zander Galerie) Feeding the Ghost ; and two major installations by Thomas Paquet (Bigaignon) that record the movement of the sun across the sky, making visible the passage of time.
The Whitney Museum of American Art presents a major work video installation by Theaster Gates along with a set of films by the avant-garde Korean-American artist Theresa Hak Kyung Cha. Pinault Collection presents works by American conceptual artist Allen Ruppersberg and a video installation by Javier Tellez that dialogues with the Salpêtrière’s history as a psychiatric hospital.
