Group exhibition: Magic Mint
about exhibition
Magic Mint explores the kinship between chemistry and pop culture products, and the gap between a material’s technical complexity and its affective, phenomenological surface. The works smooth, plump, withstand, erode, and compress significance and matter.
Featuring works by Janine Iversen, Marlon Kroll, Malcolm McCormick, Ty Palow, Juan Pablo Hernández Gutiérrez, and Sasha Miasnikova.
“That dreamy look in your eye,
give me a tropical contact high.”
A short chain of amino acids,
a discontinued vibrant green shade,
or a psychoactive plant.
Essential emollients,
Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4,
Acetyl Hexapeptide-8,
standing quietly at the threshold,
helping to withstand
the pressure of the outside world
Holding water, molecule by molecule,
lipid returning to lipid,
body recognizing itself,
a quiet architecture,
a softness that lingers.
Like a hand placed gently
against the skin:
be still,
comforted,
“Up and down
And round and round”
