Liv Cuniberti’s Floating City
The Venice-raised curator on glass sculptures, marble, and Carlo Scarpa
Liv Cuniberti is a curator based in New York. She is currently part of the curatorial team at Dia Art Foundation. She was previously part of the curatorial team organizing the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, “The Milk of Dreams” (2022), and “The Disquieted Muses: When La Biennale di Venezia Meets History” (2020). She holds a B.A. in History of Art from The Courtauld Institute of Art, London, and an M.A. from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson.
What is your favorite space to see art in your city?
The three newly established spaces Ca’Buccari, Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation, and SMAC (San Marco Art Centre); the first opened in 2023 and the latter two in 2025. I routinely visit Carlo Scarpa’s permanent exhibition design on the second floor of the Museo Correr. I would also mention Giorgio Mastinu’s gallery, which focuses on works on paper, books, and objects; Fondazione Prada; and the Gallerie dell’Accademia.
What is your favorite artwork in your city?
Any and all glass sculptures by Bruno Amadi. One can find his works in his Venice shop, some of which were also exhibited in a 2021 exhibition organized at the institution Le Stanze del Vetro, located on the island of San Giorgio.
What is your favorite public monument or sculpture?
The cluster of gridded marble slabs on the southern facade of the Basilica di San Marco, above the Portrait of the Four Tetrarchs, because of its surprising endurance.
